CIL expands USC PFAS reference suite with 13C-TFMS
Cambridge Isotope Laboratories has released a 13C-labeled trifluoromethanesulfonate (TFMS) standard, rounding out its ultra-short chain PFAS panel that underpins ASTM 8628-25 and other emerging analytical methods. Novachem can now supply the full native + labeled set locally for utilities and labs chasing low-level USC detections.

Why this drop matters

Cambridge Isotope Laboratories (CIL) just announced a 13C-labeled TFMS analytical reference standard. TFMS and other ultra-short chain (USC) PFAS are exceptionally soluble, move quickly through soil columns, and are now showing up in groundwater, dust, and indoor air datasets. Regulators are signaling that USC targets must be captured alongside legacy PFOS/PFOA, yet most calibration sets still stop at C2–C3 acids.

Adding 13C-TFMS to CIL's existing portfolio closes that gap and gives Australian labs access to:

  • Matrix-matched quantitation across USC anions when applying ASTM 8628-25, EPA draft 1633 addenda, or custom LC-MS/MS panels.
  • Native + labeled pairs that improve recoveries in high-ionic-strength or high-organic matrices.
  • Traceable documentation that lines up with ISO/IEC 17025/17034 expectations for PFAS reporting.

Use cases we're hearing from customers

  1. Drinking water and recycled water providers that need to extend ADWG surveillance programs to cover the full USC ladder.
  2. Site investigations around historical fluoropolymer or AFFF footprints where USC mobility is pushing plumes beyond existing sentinel wells.
  3. Indoor air and dust studies looking at deposition in high-traffic transport hubs, defence assets, and manufacturing clean rooms.

How Novachem can help

  • Local stock + cold-chain handling: We're bringing in the new 13C-TFMS lots alongside CIL's native USC PFAS packs so you can keep validation timelines intact.
  • Method support: Our applications team can map CIL SKUs to your ASTM 8628-25, USEPA 533/537.1, or bespoke LC-MS/MS methods, including dilution protocols for troublesome matrices.
  • Documentation on demand: COAs, safety data, and stability statements are available via the Novachem portal, making NATA reviews straightforward.
